Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program 2024

International Affairs Canada and the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China are offering short-term scholarships to Canadians who wish to pursue post-secondary education, research or Chinese language training at institutions in China or a combination of these activities.

Founded in 1973, the Canada-China Scholarship Exchange Program (CCSEP) was the result of an agreement between then Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai and Prime Minister of Canada Pierre Elliot Trudeau. More than 1,100 scientists have participated in the program over the past 50 years. Canadian academics bring new perspectives to their host country and return to Canada with a better knowledge and understanding of China.

Admissible Criteria:

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  1. Interested applicants can apply for a scholarship in China for research, language study or a combination of study and language study.
  2. To be eligible, Applicent must be Canadian citizens.
  3. Any of the following: Full-time teaching or research staff at a graduate or research
  4. institution in Canada; OR Students enrolled in a college, undergraduate or graduate program at a designated educational institution (DLI) in Canada. OR An intermediate professional from a government, media or cultural organization, or the National Education
  5. Association of Canada, who has a graduate degree (Master’s or Doctorate) and experience in management, policy development, or decision making in that organization for at least three people Have experience. responsibilities this year
  6. Have achieved the level of written and speeke Chinese required by the host institution in China, if applicable. Where Chinese is the language of instruction, HSK level 3 is required for BS studies and HSK level 4 is required for postgraduate studies.
  7. Don’t look for a degree in China.
  8. Age must be under 45 years when applying under China Scholarship Council (CSC) “Public University” category; And
  9. You must be below 50 years of age while applying under CSC “Senior Scholar” category.

Applicants agree to:

  • Enroll at your host university for a course approved by the China Scholarship Council (CSC).
  • The Chinese Institute must obtain permission for late registration.
  • Return to Canada after completing your exchange program.
  • Do not stack other scholarships that provide similar assistance
  • Apply for an X1 or X2 visa and hold a passport valid for the duration of your stay in China
  • Have adequate medical insurance coverage during the award period.
  • Focus on study, research and/or Chinese language teaching at a Chinese host institution.
  • Do not take paid work in China during the grant.

Benefits:

Scholarships are awarded for four to 12 months for students and 8 weeks to 12 months for professionals, faculty members and researchers. The CCSEP scholarship has two components.

1) The Chinese Government Scholarship component includes the following:

  • Tuition fees at participating Chinese institutions;
  • Monthly stipend (approximate amount): 1) 2500 Yuan for undergraduate students, 2) students/Ordinary scholars and 3) 3500 Yuan for PhD students/Senior scholars.
  • Subsidy for on-campus or off-campus housing (if authorized by the host institution); and comprehensive health insurance
    2) The Global Affairs Canada scholarship component covers the cost of travel to destination in China via the most cost-effective route between the scholarship recipient’s origin and final destination.

How to Apply

Applicant must complete a three-step application.

  1. Step#1: Complete and submit the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) online application form available on this site and provide supporting documentation when requested..
  2. Step#2: Complete and submit the CSC online application on the (CSC) website as well as print and mail the application package to the Canadian Bureau for Worldwide Education (CBIE) in Ottawa, Canada.
  3. Step#3: Mail additional supporting documents to CBIE.
