Eligible Countries:

Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Jordan, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ukraine, Serbia, Turkey, and many more eligible developing nations under the OECD/DAC framework.
Eligibility Criteria:
To qualify for the METI Government of Japan Internship Program 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a citizen of an eligible OECD/DAC-listed country
- Should support the program’s mission of promoting internationalization, overseas business expansion, and collaboration with Japanese companies and universities
- Must have proficiency in either Japanese (minimum JLPT N3 level) or English
- Applicants must be between 18 and 39 years old as of 24 August 2026
- Must be able to provide proof of enrollment or graduation from a school/university, along with a recommendation letter from their university, institution, or employer
- Should be available to complete all mandatory training sessions before the internship begins
- Must be capable of participating in the full internship program at the assigned company and worksite according to the official schedule set by the JIP office
- Previous participants in the METI Internship Program from FY2016 to FY2025 are not eligible to apply

The application period for the METI Government of Japan Internship Program 2026 is divided into two sessions:
- Summer Internship: Mid-May 2026 to late June 2026
- Winter Internship: Mid-August 2026 to late September 2026
